Dogecoin was the first memecoin to launch in the crypto space. Known initially as a joke cryptocurrency, it has gone beyond such description, becoming useful in many ways. This has been facilitated mostly by Twitter (X) owner Elon Musk.

Musk contributed immensely towards making Dogecoin popular, and towards making it a rewarding investment asset. Many investors became millionaires investing in Dogecoin in 2021’s rally when it went up over 1000%.

Even before then, some businesses were already accepting the dog-inspired cryptocurrency as payment for goods and services. The number of businesses accepting the coin has increased significantly with many more accepting it in many countries.

Dogecoin made its way into the entertainment industry early with AMC Theatres. It is a movie theater owned by AMC Entertainment Holdings, Inc., a movie theater company with headquarters in Kansas City.

After reviving as a “meme stock” company in 2021, AMC started accepting Dogecoin payment in 2022, in addition to Bitcoin, Shiba Inu, Bitcoin Cash, Litecoin, and Ethereum. This graduated from accepting crypto payments only for digital gift cards.

It is interesting to note that AMC has also launched NFTs connection with the movie Spider-Man: No Way Home, Jurassic World, Lightyear, and Bullet Train among other movies.


Electric car company Tesla is owned by Musk, so it shouldn’t be a surprise that the company accepts Dogecoin payments. Indeed, it has a long-standing relationship with Dogecoin, since its owner is a fan and a great supporter of Dogecoin.

Musk announced in 2022 that Tesla would start accepting Dogecoin payments for some of its merchandise on its online store. The question many are asking is when the company will accept Dogecoin payment for actual Tesla cars.
